Rotary Emblem Regular

Make Dreams Real is the 2008-09 Rotary International theme.  D. K. Lee, the Rotary International President for 08-09, wants every club to focus on our most precious resource:  our children.  Every day, 30,000 children under the age of 5 die from a preventable cause.  Helping to reduce the child mortality rate through club and district service projects is the goal set forth by President Lee.

Children today still face the threat of Polio until we keep our promise of making the world Polio free.  Rotary International has been battling Polio for 20 years and the number of cases has been reduced by ninety-nine percent!  The final one percent could be the most difficult and expensive.  Rotary has a 100 million dollar, three year challenge to match the Gates Foundation to fight Polio eradication.  We have been asked to support this challenge by contributing $1,000 a year for three years.  I have full confidence that Algona Rotarians will be up to this challenge.

It is an honor to be a member of the Algona Rotary Club and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as the 2008-09 club president.  With everyone’s help we can finish our promise to eradicate polio and Make Dreams Real for the world’s children.
