1. We have no $$ report yet on the SnowBall, but it is certain
that we will be able to use the proceeds to make a good
contribution to End Polio Now.
2. Adrianne Magill was recognized for her hard work on the
SnowBall. She put in much time with the organizing, decorating
and clean-up. She was assisted by Carol Heesch, her co-chair.
3. The StageMobile and Membership committees both met after the
regular meeting today.
The StageMobile committee is defining policy and organizing
sponsorship advertising so that the StageMobile will be ready to
go this spring.
The Membership committee is looking ahead to a March or April
membership drive.
Next meeting: Feb. 22
Program: John Bilsten

Greeters: Steve Heyer/David Bergquist
Following week: March 1

Due to weather conditions, Steve Prottsman and his program were
unable to attend. We were able to use Tom Wilhite’s program
from last week’s cancelled meeting. Vicki Mallory talked about
RAGBRAI and enlightened us on the community effort needed to
host this event. She is welcoming input from all members
regarding how Rotary can best be involved. She also encouraged
us to get involved on committees.
Rotary Review February
1, 2010
Announcements:
1. The Snow Ball committee urgently needs help with ticket
sales. Each Rotarian is responsible for selling 2 tickets, with
many tickets remaining to be sold. Contact Adiranne or Vicki if
you need more tickets. Tickets are on sale at the Chamber and
at the local banks. Remember our cause, End Polio Now. Come
and support Rotary!
2. The Doughmobile situation is still uncertain. We are
currently waiting to hear if there is any insurance coverage.
It appears the equipment is undamaged, but the trailer itself
will probably need replacement.
3. The Board voted today to purchase two ShelterBoxes for
Haiti. District 5970 will match every $2 with $1, so we will
be able to actually provide three of these. Each ShelterBox
contains tent shelter and basic survival equipment for 10
people.
Although he wasn’t there, we sang Happy Birthday (today) to
Steve Hoskins and wished Linda & Kurt Vaudt Happy Anniversary
(today).
Joker’s Wild!
Yes, we had a winner today. Rick Atkinson deftly pulled the
joker out of the remaining 6 cards to win $709. If that wasn’t
excitement enough, Rick shared that he is donating all of the
money back to End Polio Now. He explained that his father
suffers from polio and has had to endure many hardships due to
this dread disease.
Thanks, Rick, for showing us your Rotarian heart and
congratulations!

1. Adrianne Magill presented information about the activities for the Frostbite Olympics, which will be held February 5-7. The duck was passed for voluntary contributions to buy Car Drop tickets for Rotary. The tickets are $1.00 each and the winner will be the person (or organization) that guesses the date and time the car on Smith Lake will drop through the ice. If you were not at the meeting and wish to participate, either individually or in the name of Rotary, contact Adrianne or the Chamber.
Adrianne also reminded us of the Snow Ball, which will be held Feb. 6 and will be sponsored by Rotary, with all proceeds going to support End Polio Now. Dick Plum has printed these tickets, which will cost $15 each, and they will be distributed next meeting so that you can help sell. Sign-up sheets for duties connected to this event will be available next week.

If you have any questions for her, she is very willing to answer. (She will send out a summary listing of donations)
In Jayme Lentz’s absence, Greg Bradley conducted Joker’s Wild. The pot was at $637, and, suspiciously, Greg’s name was drawn. He drew the 5 of clubs. The pot continues to grow.

Note: I am interested in names of polio survivors who live in Algona. Marilyn Deal, our End Polio Now Chair, and I would like to do some publicity prior to the Snow Ball. This would be a great opportunity to interview and write about people who have survived this disease, while putting the focus on Rotary’s continuing effort to eradicate polio. If you know of someone who fits this category, please let me know.
Thanks.
